Robots for industry: internal logistics, machine tending, inspection rounds

Mobile robots move parts between workstations, robot arms and grippers handle repetitive operations, and legged robots carry sensors on inspection rounds.

IN BRIEF

Updated

  1. Factories use mobile robots for internal logistics, robot arms and grippers for machine tending and assembly, and legged robots for inspection rounds.

  2. Robot Distribution lists logistics robots, arms, hands and quadrupeds from several manufacturers.

  3. Each application starts with a risk assessment of the cell or the route.

WHAT ROBOTS DO

Three jobs that robots repeat on a factory floor.

  1. Internal logistics

Parts, bins and finished goods travel between workstations, stores and shipping on autonomous mobile robots.

  2. Machine tending and assembly

A robot arm with a gripper or a dexterous hand loads parts, picks and places, or holds a part during an operation.

  3. Inspection rounds

A legged robot carries cameras and sensors along a fixed route, including stairs and uneven ground, and records readings.

HOW DEPLOYMENT WORKS

From site survey to after-sales.

See all services
  1. Site survey

We walk the routes with you before any order: passage widths, door thresholds, floor gaps, slopes, lifts and doors, Wi-Fi coverage, charging and water points. The survey decides the model.

  2. Mapping and commissioning

The robot is mapped on site, routes and no-go zones are set, and lifts, doors or call systems are connected where the model supports it.

  3. Training

Operators learn daily use, charging and cleaning, error recovery and the emergency stop. One site lead learns to change routes and maps.

  4. After-sales

Remote diagnosis first, then a part or a technician. Preventive maintenance and software updates can be part of a service contract or of a RaaS fee.

ACQUISITION

Buy, rent, or pay by the month.

  • RENTAL1 day to 12 monthsTest one floor or cover a season: delivered, set up and collected.
  • RAAS24 to 60 monthsOne monthly fee: robot, maintenance, software, replacement.

REGULATION

What European law asks, in plain language.

Updated · General information, not legal advice.

Read the Machinery Regulation guide
CE marking and EU declaration of conformityEvery robot we deliver carries the CE marking and comes with the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which we check before delivery.
Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230The Machinery Regulation applies from 20 January 2027 and replaces Directive 2006/42/EC. It adds requirements for autonomous mobile machinery, safety software and protection against corruption.
GDPR and robots with camerasA robot that films or maps a place where people can be identified processes personal data. The operator needs a legal basis, informs the people concerned and limits how long images are kept.
Your risk assessmentAs an employer, you include the robot in the risk assessment of the workplace like any other work equipment. The manufacturer's instructions state the residual risks and the training required.
Robot cells and collaborative operationA robot arm is assessed in its installation, with its gripper and its parts. ISO 10218 covers industrial robots and ISO/TS 15066 collaborative operation; applying a standard is voluntary, but it is the usual way to show conformity.

FAQ

Questions manufacturers ask us.

Is a robot arm sold as complete machinery?

A robot arm on its own is usually partly completed machinery: it is supplied with a declaration of incorporation, and the integrator who builds the cell issues the EU declaration of conformity for the whole installation.

What is a cobot?

A cobot is a robot arm designed to share a workspace with people, with force and speed limits set by a risk assessment of the application.

Can a quadruped robot do inspection rounds?

Legged robots such as the Unitree B2, rated IP67 by its manufacturer, carry sensors over stairs and uneven ground. The inspection software and the sensors are chosen for your installation.

Do you integrate robot cells?

Robot Distribution supplies robots, grippers and hands and works with integrators from its reseller network for complete cells. The site survey defines who does what.
