Inspection quadruped robot: the operator round, done the same way every day

The robot walks the same route every day, stops at the same points and records images, temperatures and readings. Technicians review the deviations and step in where needed.

A DEEP Robotics X30 Pro quadruped robot walks its inspection round between the pipes of a chemical plant at dawn.

IN BRIEF

Updated

  1. An inspection quadruped walks the rounds of a plant, substation or chemical site on its own and collects images, thermal views and readings at each checkpoint.

  2. The DEEP Robotics X30 Pro is IP67, works from -20 to 55 °C, climbs stairs and slopes up to 45° and runs 2.5 to 4 h per battery according to its manufacturer.

  3. Robot Distribution fits it with the sensors your site needs, records the rounds, trains the teams and maintains it, to buy, rent or as RaaS.

WHY

Industrial inspection rounds

On an industrial site, the operator round is repetitive: the same pumps, the same gauges, the same motors, day and night. It also runs through noisy, hot, elevated or exposed areas where human presence is best kept short.

The quadruped does that round on schedule, with the same camera angles every time. Dated, located data make drifts visible sooner, and technicians keep their time for diagnosis and repair.

HOW IT RUNS

How a round runs with the robot.

  1. The round is recorded once

At commissioning the site is mapped and checkpoints are set: cabinets, valves, gauges, motor bearings, possible leak points.

  2. The robot leaves on schedule

It leaves its dock, follows its route, climbs metal stairs and crosses gratings, stopping for obstacles and people.

  3. It records each point

At each checkpoint it turns to the target and records photos, video, a thermal image or a gas reading, depending on the sensors fitted for the site.

  4. The team handles deviations

Readings go to the control room. A hot spot, a needle out of range or a suspected leak triggers a check by a technician.

The DEEP Robotics X30 Pro robot climbs a metal staircase to an inspection walkway.
Stairs and gratings are part of the round.
A technician checks on a tablet the thermal image recorded by the DEEP Robotics X30 Pro robot in front of an electrical cabinet.
Readings reach the technician, who judges and acts.

BEFORE INSTALLING

What the site survey checks before installation.

  1. The actual route

Stairs, gratings, sills, ramps and narrow passages are noted along the whole round: the robot must complete it end to end without help.

  2. Hazardous areas

ATEX zoning is checked. A robot only enters a classified zone if it is certified for that zone; otherwise the round goes around it.

  3. Network and supervision

Wi-Fi or private network coverage along the route, and how readings reach your supervision system or CMMS.

  4. The right sensors

Thermal camera, optical zoom, gas detector, microphone: chosen for what each checkpoint needs, not a standard kit.

FAQ

Site managers' questions about robotic inspection.

Can the robot work at night and outdoors?

Yes. The DEEP Robotics X30 Pro is IP67, operates from -20 to 55 °C and its perception is designed to work in darkness according to its manufacturer. The Unitree B2 is also IP67, the DEEP Robotics LYNX M20 IP66.

How long does a round last on one battery?

The manufacturer states 2.5 to 4 h for the X30 Pro, with quick battery swap, and 4 to 6 h for the Unitree B2. A longer round is split into several routes or continued after a battery swap.

Does the robot read gauges and detect leaks?

It carries the sensors and brings them to the right spot, at the same angle every time. Gauge reading, thermal imaging and gas detection depend on the sensors and software chosen for your site during the survey.

Can we test the robot on our site?

Yes: a demo on part of your round, or a short rental to try it in your real conditions before deciding.

Send us your site plan and your list of checkpoints. We size the robot and its sensors.
