Robots for retail: floor care, guiding customers, stock runs

Cleaning robots keep large sales floors clean during opening hours, and service robots guide customers or carry goods from the stockroom.

IN BRIEF

Updated

  1. Shops and shopping centres use robots to clean large floors, guide or greet customers, display promotions and carry goods from the stockroom.

  2. Cleaning robots publish their coverage per hour, which sizes the fleet.

  3. Robot Distribution supplies, installs and maintains them for purchase, rental or RaaS.

WHAT ROBOTS DO

Three jobs a sales floor repeats every day.

  1. Floor care during opening hours

A cleaning robot scrubs or vacuums aisles and malls on a schedule, around customers, and returns to its station to charge.

  2. Greeting and promotion

A service robot with a screen welcomes customers at the entrance or carries a promotion along the aisles.

  3. Stock runs

Goods travel from the stockroom to the shelves in a robot's compartments, while staff stay on the floor.

HOW DEPLOYMENT WORKS

From site survey to after-sales.

See all services
  1. Site survey

We walk the routes with you before any order: passage widths, door thresholds, floor gaps, slopes, lifts and doors, Wi-Fi coverage, charging and water points. The survey decides the model.

  2. Mapping and commissioning

The robot is mapped on site, routes and no-go zones are set, and lifts, doors or call systems are connected where the model supports it.

  3. Training

Operators learn daily use, charging and cleaning, error recovery and the emergency stop. One site lead learns to change routes and maps.

  4. After-sales

Remote diagnosis first, then a part or a technician. Preventive maintenance and software updates can be part of a service contract or of a RaaS fee.

ACQUISITION

REGULATION

What European law asks, in plain language.

Updated · General information, not legal advice.

Read the Machinery Regulation guide
CE marking and EU declaration of conformityEvery robot we deliver carries the CE marking and comes with the manufacturer's EU declaration of conformity, which we check before delivery.
Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230The Machinery Regulation applies from 20 January 2027 and replaces Directive 2006/42/EC. It adds requirements for autonomous mobile machinery, safety software and protection against corruption.
GDPR and robots with camerasA robot that films or maps a place where people can be identified processes personal data. The operator needs a legal basis, informs the people concerned and limits how long images are kept.
Your risk assessmentAs an employer, you include the robot in the risk assessment of the workplace like any other work equipment. The manufacturer's instructions state the residual risks and the training required.
Cameras in a shopRobots with cameras in a shop follow the same GDPR principles as video surveillance: inform customers with signage and limit how long images are kept.

FAQ

Questions retailers ask us.

Can a cleaning robot work while the store is open?

Yes. Commercial cleaning robots detect people and obstacles and slow down or stop around them. Many retailers still schedule scrubbing before opening, when aisles are empty and floors dry before customers arrive.

How many cleaning robots does a store need?

The number depends on the floor area, the floor types and the hours available. Each manufacturer publishes a coverage per hour, for example 700 to 1,000 m²/h for PUDU CC1, and the site survey checks it against your layout.

Can a robot display our promotions?

Some service robots carry a screen for content: PUDU BellaBot Pro has an 18.5-inch advertising screen, according to its manufacturer. Content is managed through the manufacturer's software.

Can we equip several stores at once?

Yes. Robot Distribution supplies fleets across Europe, with one site survey per store and RaaS contracts that cover several sites.
