Security patrol robot: autonomous rounds, day and night

The robot runs scheduled rounds, films in visible and thermal light and alerts the security control room. Guards keep alarm verification and response.

IN BRIEF

Updated

  1. A security patrol robot moves on its own around an industrial site, warehouse or car park on scheduled rounds, films in visible and thermal light and sends alerts to the security control room.

  2. The Robotnik RB-WATCHER patrols indoors and outdoors at up to 2.5 m/s for 5 h with a bi-spectral PTZ camera, and returns to its charging station on its own, according to its manufacturer.

  3. Robot Distribution delivers it, programmes the rounds, connects it to your monitoring tools, trains your teams and maintains it, to buy, rent or as RaaS.

WHY

Robotic security patrols

On a large site, night, weekend and holiday rounds never stop: fences, gates, storage yards, car parks. They keep guards on repetitive routes, often in bad weather.

The robot provides presence and detection on those routes, with thermal cameras that see at night. Guards focus on verification and response. Footage remains subject to GDPR and video surveillance rules.

HOW IT RUNS

How a round runs with the robot.

  1. Mapping and rounds

At commissioning we map the site and set the rounds, checkpoints and times, along with no-go zones for the robot.

  2. Autonomous patrol

The robot follows its rounds and watches continuously. The Enova Robotics PGuard carries a thermal camera and a day/night camera with 32× optical zoom to observe up to 500 m, according to its manufacturer.

  3. Detection and alert

Intruder, open gate or damaged fence: the Ascento Guard detects these events with AI and reports them to the existing video management system, according to its manufacturer.

  4. Verification and charging

The guard reviews the footage, speaks remotely if needed and decides whether to respond. The robot resumes its round, then returns to its charging station on its own.

BEFORE INSTALLING

What the site survey checks before installation.

  1. Ground and routes

Surfaces, slopes, kerbs, gravel and obstacles are noted: the PGuard clears 20 cm and climbs 25°, according to its manufacturer.

  2. Indoor or outdoor

For offices and data centres, the Cobalt Robot rides Otis, KONE, TK Elevator and Schindler lifts, according to its manufacturer. Outdoors, weather sealing and temperature range are checked.

  3. Network

Wi-Fi, 4G or 5G coverage is measured along the whole route so video and alerts arrive without dropouts.

  4. Integration and data

Links to video surveillance, access control and the control room; retention periods and notices to people under GDPR.

FAQ

Security managers' questions about patrol robots.

Does the robot replace security guards?

No. It handles rounds and detection; verification and response stay with guards, on site or from the control room.

Can the robot see at night?

Yes. The SMP Argus S5.3 combines six panoramic cameras, a 30× zoom PTZ camera and a thermal camera, and detects a person up to 150 m at night, according to its manufacturer.

What runtime and range?

According to the manufacturer: 5 h for the Robotnik RB-WATCHER, up to 8 h for the Ascento Guard and PGuard, 8 h or 28 km for the Gosuncn X3, up to 24 km per charge for the SMP Argus S5.3.

Does the robot work in the rain?

The SMP Argus S5.3 is rated IP65 and works from –20 to +55 °C, the Robotnik RB-WATCHER IP54, according to their manufacturers. The Ascento Guard is stated for rain, snow and wind.

Does it connect to our video surveillance?

The Ascento Guard integrates with existing video management systems, and the SMP Argus S5.3 supports ONVIF and RTSP, according to their manufacturers. The survey checks your installation.
