OVERVIEW

The Starship delivery robot in detail

Starship Technologies, founded in 2014 and based in Tallinn, Estonia, operates a six-wheel sidewalk robot rated SAE Level 4 for autonomy. According to the manufacturer, it runs for up to 18 h per charge and navigates with 12 cameras, including time-of-flight units, plus radars and ultrasonic sensors. Goods ride in an insulated, lockable compartment suited to hot, cold or frozen items.

University campuses, urban food and grocery delivery and large industrial sites are its main settings, and the maker describes it as working in all weathers. A bogie system lets the six wheels climb curbs, while wireless charging on site keeps the fleet running. Before planning a deployment, survey the routes for curb heights, ramps and crossings, confirm where charging points can be installed, and check local regulations on sidewalk robots.

Compared with Coco 2, the Starship robot emphasises long runtime, curb climbing and insulated storage for closed sites such as campuses, while Coco 2 targets restaurant runs in city centres. Because Starship operates its robots as a service rather than selling them, Robot Distribution helps site managers prepare route surveys and connects the project with the manufacturer's service offer.
