OVERVIEW
Launched by SUITX by Ottobock in 2025, the IX BACK VOLTON is a motor-powered back exoskeleton for repetitive lifting. According to the manufacturer, it weighs 5.7 kg including its battery, supports the back for loads up to 17 kg and offers up to 10 hours of battery life. The battery is replaceable, and the level of support adapts in real time as the wearer lifts, walks or bends.
It targets logistics centres, parcel handling and production lines where operators pick up and set down loads all day, and its slim profile is meant for confined workstations. Before deploying it, compare the actual weight of the loads handled with the 17 kg support figure given by the manufacturer, check the range of body sizes in the team and the space around each station, organise battery charging between shifts, and plan the trial with occupational health and the operators concerned. An exoskeleton complements, and does not replace, the ergonomic design of the workstation.
Unlike the CYBERDYNE HAL models in this range, which are medical devices for gait treatment, the IX BACK VOLTON is an occupational tool for workers in good health; within the SUITX line it is the powered option alongside the passive IX back exoskeletons. Robot Distribution can run fitting sessions and a trial on your own lines before a wider roll-out.
